In case of special hoses or very large nominal diameters the safety factor may be somewhat reduced, but should never be lower than safety factor 3. However, this falls under the responsibility of the hose manufacturers. The test pressure that every finished hose assembly should be subjected to is generally 70% of the bursting pressure, so that the hose is required to prove a sufficient safety factor during the test. Burst Pressure The burst pressure of a hose line is a theoretic value without use for the operator. The burst pressure indication itself is not very informative due to its various definition types. In practice this value must never be reached - even not approximately – due to the security specifications for each installation. The test procedures for the hydrostatic test pressure and for the burst pressure test are defined in the standards EN ISO 1402 and SAE J343.
